Green campaigners back plans for turbines

30 October 2008

AN ENVIRONMENTAL action group is backing plans to establish two wind farms in North Herts.

North Herts Friends of the Earth (FoE) are supporting proposals to erect wind turbines in Weston and Benington.

Developers John and Paul Cherry, of Darnalls Hall Farm in Weston, want to erect three 125m high turbines at Weston Hills, off Hatch Lane.

And developers RH Bott & Sons have submitted a planning application to erect three 120m high turbines on High Elms Lane, between Benington, Aston and Watton-at-Stone.

The plans have been met with strong objections from residents but North Herts FoE collected more than 100 letters of support for the plans at a stand in Hitchin at the weekend.

Dan Gomm, spokesman for the North Herts branch of the national charity, said: “Rising energy bills and the threat of climate change means generating green energy from renewable sources such as the wind, sun, waves and tides has never made more sense for the people of North Herts and for the planet.”
